The NIV Bible
The NIV translation was sponsored by
The New York Bible
Society. The NIV bible places second
in Bible sales behind the KJV.
Zondervan Publishing of Grand Rapids, Michigan owns the
rights to the NIV Bible. NIV
translators worked from more than 5,000 complete or
partial manuscripts and papyri; in contrast to the King
James translators who worked from the Erasmus Greek text
of the New Testament. Erasmus had only six Greek
manuscripts from which to work. It took 10 years to
complete the NIV translation. The NIV bible was created and is
maintained with a mandate to accurately and faithful
translation of the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic
biblical texts into clearly understandable English.
